About

Jess is a Chicago-based writer of prose, poetry, and plays. She is interested in themes of intergenerational trauma, grief, loss, memory, and belonging. Telling women’s stories is of particular importance to her, as well as the stories of those who feel they don’t belong.

Jess has a Master’s degree in Theatre History, Theory, and Literature from Indiana University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Theatre from Knox College. Some of her favorite writers are Tony Kushner, Roxane Gay, Alice Sebold, Sarah Ruhl, Brene Brown, Tom Stoppard, Rupi Kaur, Alison Weir, Erik Larson, Maya Angelou, Junot Diaz, Nayyirah Waheed, Luis Alfaro, and Audrey Niffenegger.

She lives northwest of Chicago with her husband and her very anxious cat, Muriel. When she avoids writing, Jess can be found gardening, playing the piano, or making art.
